What is up with the clamor by some Heat fans for T-Mac??
If you read enough Heat message boards, or the questions people ask Ira Winderman on the Sun-Sentinel page, there seems to be a lot of people intrigued by Tracy McGrady who is now on the trade block since Houston does not want to play him a ton of minutes since he is recovering from micro-fracture knee surgery last season.
T-Mac, making over $22 MILLION this year wants to play since he is in the last year of his contract and presumably wants to show other teams he is worth another contract next year.
My good friend sent me an email today with these stats:
T Mac has only played in 70 games in 6 of his 13 seasons in the league and has never played 80 games in a season. It has been 7 season since he has shot over 43.1% from the floor. Is this what we’re dying for?
For one thing, his salary is so huge that we’d have to either trade Jermaine O’Neal (leaving us with a massive hole at center) or a package of about 5 players (such as Haslem + Richardson + James Jones + Cook + Quinn) or something like that. For what? An expiring chucker who plays a position we are fine with (I *like* the way Richardson and Wright platoon, and we have depth in reserve in James Jones and Beasley in a pinch, to boot).
What the team needs is not T-Mac. It needs an upgrade at point guard. If you want to upgrade the 3, it’s not for a chucker who is injury prone and doesn’t play defense.
Please, let’s end the T-Mac speculation.

I don’t think a Tmac trade including either JO or Q is the answer. To let JO go we’d need to pick up a good C (someone like Okafor who NO are shopping for financial reasons – though I have no idea about the length of his contract)and Q is playing so well in our system that he’s a keeper and hopefully re-signs at the vet min to play with his best buddy Wade next season. I do think it’s time to chnage things up though. I’d like to see UD traded along with JJ’s contract and DCook (whom I’ve given up on). This hopefully for a defensive passing PG and allow Beas and DW1 to get a real run for the rest of the season – I think they’ve both earned it. Haslem can come back at the Vet min as backup next season if he wants.
December 31st, 2009 at 8:26 amRiley is not going to trade UD because he covets the expiring contract. Beside the fact he is also the only other power forward on the roster and is beloved. That being said, the Beasley situation in the 4th needs to be addressed.
I can see UD being used in a sign and trade. He is not a minimum player, no way he settles for that. He will get the mle or close to it from someone.
December 31st, 2009 at 10:16 amThen UD for Caron would make more sense than Beas for Caron wouldn’t it?
January 3rd, 2010 at 8:22 amI guess, but Washington and do better than UD’s expiring for Caron.
