James Jones Wins the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest

The Miami Heat’s James Jones found himself in a battle against the Boston Celtics in NBA All Star weekend’s Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.  Jones scored 20 points in the second round to win the contest, defeating the Celtic’s Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. This marks the third three-point champ from the Miami Heat since 2007.  Both Jason Kapono (2007) and Daequan Cook (2009) won the contest while with the Heat.

Perhaps it feels good for the Heat to finally beat the Celtics in something.  Nice to see James Jones get some recognition for his skills as well.  I always read and hear how hard of a worker James Jones is with this team and it certainly shows.  In addition to his three point shooting, he is leading the team in drawing charges.

It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on Jones’ playing time.  With the return of Mike Miller, his role has taken a bit of a hit.  Perhaps this showcase in Los Angeles will result in some more playing time for Jones.  But then again, winning didn’t seem to do much for Daequan Cook’s playing time back in 2009.
