Let’s face facts. With the NBA Players Association’s rejection of the latest labor deal, the season is in serious jeopardy. The Players Union will disband and head to the courts for what will be a lengthy court battle between the two sides. I’ll have more on the labor deal in another post.
The big news today is that LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony will be hosting a homecoming tour in which the players will put together teams and play in their respective home towns. Each player will take the lead in organizing the event in their homes with D-Wade in Chicago, LeBron in Akron, CP3 in New Orleans, and Carmelo in East Rutherford.
How will the Akron fans react to LeBron’s “homecoming”?
While it may seem logical that it would be negative, I don’t see that happening. The people attending these games won’t necessarily be Cleveland fans where the majority of the LeBron hate is focused on. The people at these games will be fans of the game. Although his league-wide popularity is pretty low, don’t expect this.
I think the fans will just appreciate being able to see some professional basketball.
