Mike Miller Injured (Again), What's Next?

After Mike Miller got his thumb caught in LeBron’s jersey causing an injury that lasted most of the season, how could Miller’s luck get any worse?  Ladies and gentlemen, Mike Miller is once again facing prolonged injury time.

Mike Miller underwent hernia surgery recently which will keep him out for the next 8 weeks meaning he will be out for at least the first month of the season.  I mentioned in a previous post that there is speculation that the Heat would use amnesty on Miller’s contract to free up cap space and sign a bigger free agent.

Miller is owed $24 million over the next four years, including $5.4 million this year.  It would be a mistake for the Heat to release him.

Although we didn’t see much of it last year, Mike’s playing style fits perfectly with the Big 3.  He’s a spot up shooter and can be very effective in the flow of the offense.  The Miami Heat would have more cap space to sign a big player but would they be able to?  There aren’t that many premier big men who have expressed interest in signing with the Heat so the extra money seems useless when it comes to that position.

If you stack Mike Miller up against players in the free agent pool, he is arguably one of the top 5 at his position. Unless the Heat are sure they will be able to sign a big time center, there really is no point in using amnesty on Mike Miller.
