We haven’t seen these guys on the court yet with the Heat which is a scary thought. They are both also expected to miss tonight’s preseason finale against the Magic. With a shortened season, these two key players need to get some reps in with the squad, especially Eddy Curry who may end up starting within a few weeks of the start of the season. What will these guys bring to the table for Miami this year and is it enough to push the Heat over the edge?
Eddy Curry has had some issues in the league over the years, most notably his weight. Under Riley’s program, Shaq slimmed down and look for the Heat to put the same stringent rules on their newest 7 footer. Eddy Curry brings size and strength to a Heat team whose main weakness is at the center position. I see him starting once he gets healthy and into rhythm with the team. His defense will be his greatest asset for the team.
Shane Battier will likely end up being a great 6th man for the Heat. His experience will bring another veteran voice in the locker room. His versatility on the court allows him to play multiple positions. He will also be highly regarded for his defense. Ultimately, he will end up being defensive version of what the Heat wanted out of Mike Miller’s offense.
Both of these guys are not going to end up playing huge minutes. Even if Curry is starting, Joel Anthony and even Dexter Pittman will rotate in quite frequently to mix up the defensive approach by the Heat. I think I’ve mentioned on numerous posts that the Heat already have what it takes to win a championship. The addition of Curry and Battier can only help their cause.
