Heat vs. Mavs Preview: Top 5 (Basketball Is Back!)

Before each game, we are going to bring you a preview of the matchup with the top 5 things to watch for in the game.  Here’s the first of hopefully 66 installments of this series.

5.  The play of Shane Battier and/or Eddy Curry:  Let’s not even get into the details of how they play, I’m more concerned with if they play at all.  Keep an eye out on these guys and let’s see how many minutes they get (if any).

4.  Norris Cole’s Effectiveness:  This guy has given us plenty of reasons to be excited during this short preseason but can we count on him to be a solid backup to Mario Chalmers?  Only time will tell and tomorrow’s game will tell us a lot.  It’s a big game against a premier NBA team and Norris Cole is probably going to be playing around 20 minutes.  Will he step up to the challenge?

3.  LeBron and Wade’s on Court Chemistry:  The duo has said that they learned a lot about playing with each other this past year and have worked on their chemistry on the court during their offseason.  Were they serious or just trying to get the media off their back?

2.  The Mavs’ New Guys:  The Mavericks were unable to resign Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea this offseason but replaced the two with 6th Man of the Year Lamar Odom and leprechaun Delonte West.  How will these veteran guys fit in with the Mavs system and can they bring another championship to Dallas?

1.  Heat’s Emotions:  This is going to be a very emotional game for Miami.  They are going to have to witness the raising of the championship banner they were so close to getting last year.  When Heat players were asked about how they would feel, some said it wouldn’t matter because it was last season while others said they haven’t really thought about it.  They’re all lying.  They have thought about that moment and they will be catching feelings.  How will the Heat respond?  If they can keep their emotions in check and play a smart basketball game, the Heat should be in line to get the win.

This game means so much more to the Heat than it does to the Mavs.  The Heat are looking for revenge while this game is more of a celebration of last year for the Mavericks.  Either way, it should be a great game.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have basketball.
