76ers Get Permission To Interview Heat Assistant Coach David Fizdale

The Philadelphia 76ers is the last team to fill its head coaching vacancy but it seems as though the search is intensifying.

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the team received permission to interview Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale.

The Philadelphia 76ers have received permission to interview Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale for their head coach opening, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Fizdale has been with the Miami Heat the past five seasons, which has included three NBA Finals trips and two championships. His responsibilities with the Heat included scouting, player development and game preparation.

Fizdale is considered one of the top assistants in the NBA. The feeling around Miami is that it’s a matter of when, not if, he gets an opportunity as a head coach.

Fizdale will join Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga and Chicago Bulls assistants Ed Pinckney and Adrian Griffin.

The 76ers are rebuilding, so it makes sense that they go with an unproven head coach like Fizdale with a background in player development.

The Sixers are a young squad, having acquired Kentucky center Nerlens Noel and Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams in the draft, not to mention Kwame Brown and Jason Richardson are the only guys on the team that have played more than six NBA seasons.
