We may have to wait until the weekend for Greg Oden’s highly-anticipated decision.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Oden is choosing to make his return with one of five teams. The teams linked to Oden are Miami, San Antonio, New Orleans, Sacramento and Atlanta.
Center Greg Oden probably won’t decide among the Heat and five other teams until this weekend, agent Mike Conley Sr. said Tuesday, adding that formal offers haven’t been made yet. He said the Heat has seen “all it needs to see” from a medical standpoint and that Oden won’t necessarily take the highest offer. But asked if a Heat offer at the $1 million minimum would be good enough, Conley said he was not sure.
This is contrary to an earlier report by Yahoo! Sports that Oden is deciding between Miami and New Orleans and will likely make a decision this week.
According to Jackson, Oden hasn’t received any official offers. Now, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know where he stands with each team in regards to contract dollars, but it does mean that everything is still negotiable and the market for Oden isn’t set.
Returning from multiple knee injuries, Oden will likely seek guaranteed dollars and something more than the minimum. Though, if the report is true, Oden’s decision comes down to more than just money.
