The Miami Heat announced that Pat Delany will be named head coach of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the team’s Developmental League affiliate. Delany spent the previous 11 seasons with the Heat organization in scouting, coaching and video department roles.
Delany will be introduced at a press conference on August 19.
The Heat purchased sole control of basketball operations of the Skyforce starting in the 2013-2014 season. The Heat will control all basketball operations such as hiring coaches and player transactions. The Skyforce will continue to operate off-the-court aspects such as ticket sales, marketing, entertainment and community initiatives.
During their first three years in the NBA, Heat players can be assigned to the Skyforce an unlimited number of times. After three years, the Heat must get consent from the player and NBA Players Association before sending the player to the minor league.
Before the Heat acquired single affiliation, the Skyforce were also affiliated with the Orlando Magic, Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. Sioux Falls is in South Dakota. The team’s mascot is this.
