Miami Heat Sign Roger Mason Jr.

The Miami Heat have signed veteran guard Roger Mason Jr.

Like Larry Drew II, Mason Jr. will compete in training camp for what looks like one spot left on the Heat’s regular season roster. The Heat now stand at 19 players for training camp, one short of the maximum 20 allowed. The Heat will take to the Bahamas for much of its training camp schedule.

Mason is playing on a non-guaranteed deal, according to the Sun Sentinel, as is Justin Hamilton, Michael Beasley, Drew II and Eric Griffin.

Mason Jr., standing 6-5 and 205 pounds, spent last season in New Orleans, where he appeared in 69 games and averaged 17.7 minutes and 5.3 points per game. He is a very capable three-point shooter, shooting .384 from beyond the arc in nine seasons.

Mason Jr, 33, was recently elected vice president of the NBA player union.
