With 5:15 left in the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game in New Orleans, Greg Oden saw his first NBA action since 2009.

What did he do? Well, he dunked (see the video above). On his first touch since returning from multiple knee injuries that threatened to derail his career.

The 25-year-old 7-footer followed up his smile-inducing dunk with a couple of boards. In four minutes off the bench, Oden made his only shot (the dunk) and had two rebounds to go with two turnovers. He also contested two consecutive shots at the rim by “Dat Boi” Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis, though he didn’t get credit for blocks. His stat line would be unimpressive if he were any other center, but this is Greg Oden, and seeing anything other than DNP is a very special thing as he tries to kick start his career in Miami.

After some heavy recruitment by multiple NBA teams (including the Pelicans) Oden signed with the Heat in August for a one year, veteran minimum contract. The former No. 1 overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

The Heat won the game 108 to 95, handing the Pelicans their first preseason loss.

What did you think of Oden’s return?
