In a game that was more entertaining than expected, the Miami Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks 110-104, to improve to 6-3 on the season.
For the Heat, LeBron James led the way with a season-high 39 points (14-18 from the field), to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Dwyane Wade pitched in 17 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and a career-high 8 steals. Chris Bosh added 14 points and 4 rebounds.
For the Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki led the way with 28 points and 6 rebounds. Vince Carter chipped in 21 points off the bench, and Monta Ellis contributed 20 points and 4 assists.
The Heat once again displayed the efficient offense that they have become known for, shooting 54.1% from the floor, and a solid 38.5% from 3-point range. In addition to the great offense displayed by the Heat, they showed the defensive intensity we come to expect from them, forcing 24 turnovers, including 19 steals. Although the Mavericks still scored 104 points, it was more a product of the Mavericks hitting 12 3-pointers than bad defense.
Another bright spot for the Heat tonight was the play of the bench. 4 bench players (Chris Andersen, Michael Beasley, Rashard Lewis, and Norris Cole) were able to contribute 32 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting 12-19 from the field. That type of production from the bench can be huge asset as the season progresses.
The Heat travel to Charlotte to take on the Bobcats (5-4) Saturday night. Start time for the game is 7:00 pm.
