The Miami Heat will be taking on the Charlotte Bobcats tonight but they may be doing so without the help of guard Mario Chalmers. After suffering a shin contusion in Game 1 on Sunday, Chalmers has been held out of practice and listed as day-to-day leading into tonight’s game.
His status hasn’t really changed, although the Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Chalmers will be a game time decision tonight.
“He went through the walkthrough part of shootaround,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “We’re trying to keep him off his feet as much as possible.”
This is encouraging news but it’s not as though the Heat need to have Chalmers in the game to win tonight. There’s likely chance that the scrubs could play and still come out ahead and forcing Chalmers into action could create a long term issue that does end up effecting games he’s needed in.
Still, making sure Chalmers doesn’t accumulate any postseason rust is important and seeing him in the game tonight will at least be a sign that he’s going to be alright in the long run.
