Pat Riley Remembers Jack Ramsay As a Legend of Basketball

The NBA lost a legend of the game on Monday when Jack Ramsay passed away at the age of 89. While the league is gripped by the bitter racism of Donald Sterling, things paused for a moment to honor the life of a man who was the antithesis of Sterling.

A few members of the Miami Heat had connections to Ramsay — as did many across basketball — and one of those men is Pat Riley.

Ramsay also touched the life of Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and even had a play named after him as a result. But while he may no longer be here, it’s clear that the impression Ramsay left on the game and it’s powerful figures will resonate long after his death.
