The NBA world is still reeling form the racist comments spewed by soon-to-be ex-owner of the Los Angeles Clippers Donald Sterling. The lifetime ban handed out to Sterling on Tuesday resonated with the entire league who are now standing as one like they never have before.
As a result, the slogan ‘We Are One’ has quickly become the NBA’s battle cry against bigotry and every team has gotten behind it and lended their brand to it. The Miami Heat are no exception as owner Micky Arison tweeted out a photo of the Heat logo with the now unifying slogan.
Arison was one of the first owners to basically disown Sterling after his atrocious statements that were made public over the weekend and the man who had gotten away with institutionalized racism for years finally gave the NBA the means to get rid of him.
It’s a victory, but one that is far from being worth celebrating. Sterling is still in the NBA and both players and fans alike won’t be happy until he’s officially gone forever.
