NBA Playoffs 2014: Miami Heat May Work James Jones in More vs. Raptors

The Miami Heat are on to the Conference Semifinals and while they don’t know who they’re going to play yet the prep is starting. But when it comes to matchups, it does matter who the Heat get as based on their opponent one player could get more work over the other.

In this case, James Jones and his perimeter defense would be better suited against the Raptors where as Shane Battier would get more minutes against the Nets.

Per Winderman:

Basically, Jones is best suited against an opposing 3-point specialist content to loiter around the 3-point line. So against the Raptors, Steve Novak would be the matchup of choice, only Novak is not a rotation player there. Jones also might have a chance against Landry Fields. I really don’t see a matchup for him against the Nets.

The Heat will use both regardless, but it’s a matter of who would get more minutes and be more useful. Jones’ three-point defending is sharp, but the Nets don’t play that style of ball and Battier’s defensive skills would be better suited for that series.
