The Miami Heat are chasing the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers as the next big dynasty of the NBA and it’s only fitting that they continue to learn from those teams on their quest for a three-peat. While neither the Bulls or Lakers factor into their current chase, the teams they used to be are indeed helping the Heat get hyped up and are helping them learn to cope with the task at hand.
According to Dwyane Wade, the Heat players are getting hyped for their second round game by watching old highlights of magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and the Lakers-Bulls dynasties that made up the late 80s, 90s and 2000s.
“We started going back to the older games,” guard Dwyane Wade said. “It’s not just the ’80s games. They play a lot of older games. It’s just good to see the competition at those times. Certain series that we’ve watched, you just see how competitive it was. You look at this time of year and nothing is promised to anyone. Everyone has an opportunity now.”
It’s fitting that the Heat are paying homage to those that came before them and they’re going to soon be up there with them. There is plenty of work left, but it’s clear the Heat are acknowledging the past as they blaze a new future.
