There was much debate about the MVP race this year but it appears that Kevin Durant will be walking away with the award, thus taking it away from LeBron James who won it last year. It’s the first MVP in Durant’s career and while Heat fans would have loved to see LeBron continue to chip away at Michael Jordan’s legacy, they have to admit that Durant indeed deserves the award.
Even if Heat fans can’t, LeBron James can as he congratulated Durant this week on his big win.
“Much respect to him and he deserves it,” James said. “He had a big-time MVP season.”
Really, the big winners in all of this is the fans, as the rivalry between James and Durant is alive and well with the two literally trading MVP trophies. They may still meet up in the NBA Finals, which would be amazing to see as all the talk would be about Durant winning the MVP but James going for the title.
Either way, LeBron is the MVP in Miami but he’s okay with Durant taking it away from him nationally, if only temporarily.
