The NBA’s Conference Semifinals round starts tonight but while we’re seeing matchups that intrigue us, we could be seeing different matchups if the NBA did what other leagues do and re-seed each round.
As discussed by Ira Winderman from the Sun-Sentinel, if the NBA re-seeded their matchups like the NFL does then we would be seeing a very different Conference Semifinals showdown than we’re about to see tipoff tomorrow. According to the seeding this year, the Heat would have been lined up with the Washington Wizards rather than the Brooklyn Nets.
There’s no possible way that the Indiana Pacers could have lined up with the Heat in the Semifinals but we still may get to seed Miami matchup against the Wizards. Indiana has looked awful this postseason and there’s a fat chance that they’ll be able to keep up with John Wall if they keep playing the way they are.
So while the fact that the NBA doesn’t re-seed robbed us of a Heat-Wizards series that may be more exciting than the one they got, we may still see the math cup anyways.
