The Miami Heat are trying to win a third championship in as many years, but there is already some emphasis being put on this upcoming offseason for a number of reasons. The main reason is that it’s the season in which the Big 3 can break up and go their separate ways, but while that seems unlikely, there are other players heading into free agency that fans will have an eye on.
One of those players is a guy that helped the Heat in the past but has turned it on lately with another team. Mike Miller was great this year in Memphis but Heat fans shouldn’t expect him to return to South Beach in the offseason. The reason for this is that the Heat amnestied Miller with two years remaining on his contract.
By rule, the Heat cannot sign Miller until the 2015 offseason, which means he’s unlikely to return to Miami before he retires. There’s a chance that he signs a one-year deal and then heads to Miami next summer, but after the season he had and at this stage in his career, Miller may snag the final long-term deal of his career and even if that keeps him from Miami, we all have to admit he deserves it.
