LeBron James has never been shy about telling us how he really feels and that sometimes comes across as him complaining about things or throwing teammates under the bus. His most recent ‘controversial’ quote revolves around his criticism of the Heat as not being the NBA’s most talented team.
Before you read too much into the blurb that everyone is passing around in yet another take down attempt of LeBron, let’s look at what he actually said:
“We’re talented, but we’re not that talented,” James said. “We have a really, really good team. We have some very talented guys. We’re not the most talented team, I don’t think, in the NBA. There’s a lot of other talented teams. We have some very, very high-IQ basketball players. And I think IQ is more important than talent.”
LeBron has never been one to beat around the bush and this is the latest example of that. He’s highly critical of himself and the team around him, but he’s also not throwing anyone under the bus here. Yes, LeBron indeed said he doesn’t think the Heat are the best team in the NBA but he does think they’re the smartest and so far that has worked out a lot better for the Heat.
In their 2010 NBA Finals loss, the Heat weren’t a smart team, but they’ve matured and evolved together into one of the NBA’s most intelligent teams. They’re insanely talented as well, let’s not discount them there, but the league is full of talented teams but only a few smart ones.
Miami is a smart team and so far that has them on the path to their third straight NBA title, which is the ultimate ‘brains over brawn’ argument out there.
