Talking to reporters Tuesday, Erik Spoelstra raved about the hard work Greg Oden has put into his NBA comeback this past season.
“I think it’s, if not the biggest, one of the biggest success stories of the regular season and post season, is Greg Oden coming back from the injuries that he’s had,” Spoelstra told reporters.
Spoelstra talked about how the Miami Heat were the first team to give Shaun Livingston, who just enjoyed a breakout season with the Brooklyn Nets, his first step toward his comeback.
“That was his first big, important step was to be available, ready to compete,” Spoelstra said. “But that success story happened four or five years ago.”
Greg Oden, who had been out of the league since 2010 with multiple injuries, signed with the Heat before last season. Spoelstra said that he has gone through more than most people can imagine just to get back to the NBA.
“I think that was a remarkable comeback, and it’s only the first step. So he’ll have a very committed summer again and then we’ll see where he’s able to take his career from here,” Spoelstra said. “We couldn’t be happier for him.”
Oden plans on returning to Columbus this summer to continue his rehab.
Greg Oden will return to Columbus to work out this summer. He recently said that he was encouraged by some areas of progress this season.

Whether or not Oden returns with the Heat, his hard work is certainly paying off and should not be overlooked. Who knows, maybe four or five years from now, Oden will enjoy a breakout season somewhere in the NBA just like Livingston.
