Pat Riley Has 'High Hopes' for Heat Draft Pick James Ennis

James Ennis, the Miami Heat’s 2013 draft pick, played his first season out of college in Australia with the Perth Wildcats and was named the team’s most valuable player in their championship season.

Pat Riley told reporters Thursday that he sees a future for Ennis.

“We have two young players we like in James Ennis and Justin Hamilton. The team has to be layered with some young guys. We have high hopes [on Ennis].”

Ennis projects to a small forward-guard in the NBA. He averaged a team-high 21.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season.

The Heat certainly need to add some athleticism and youth to the aging roster, but many people forget that they already drafted Ennis last season and sent him overseas to develop. Should Ennis meet Riley’s expectations, he could play a role in Miami next season.
