The Miami Heat are looking at free agent names that may be able to come in and help them this offseason and it appears that we could see some familiar faces make their way to South Beach if only just in rumor form.
Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders believes Milwaukee Bucks’ forward Ekpe Udoh, Phoenix Suns’ center Channing Frye and and the often talked about Emeka Okafor could be good fits with the Heat.
Finding a useful big man is harder. Ekpe Udoh could be an option as a restricted free agent, a mobile big who could execute Miami’s traps well and has usually played better than his box score stats. Channing Frye or Emeka Okafor (if healthy) could be other frontcourt options. But frankly, there is not a ton out there. If Miami could figure out a way to acquire Carmelo while staying over the cap, that would be the best option, but otherwise they are going to have major problems on D because of the inability to get anyone else.
Okafor is the best fit for the Heat it seems as he fits the bill of the type of banged up veteran Pat Riley likes to fix up — or at least try to. The question though is will LeBron James think highly enough of Okafor to re-sign or will he see it as a cost cutting measure to just add a big veteran who will rarely play?
