The NBA Draft is just a day away and the Miami Heat are scrambling to try and put together a decent class so that they can enter free agency with a head start to re-sign LeBron James.

While the Heat have showed little urgency in the recent past — even dating back to last summer when they coasted through a few bad signings — things have begun to pick up at a rapid pace and the Heat are getting very serious about the draft.

According to Chad Ford from ESPN.com, the Miami Heat are aggressively trying to trade up to draft Shabazz Napier out of UConn.

This makes a ton of sense as the Heat have had their eyes on Napier for some time now but they’ve watched his stock inflate much higher than they’d be able to take him. There is talk of Napier going as high as No. 12 overall to the Orlando Magic, but as long as the Heat can get ahead of the Chicago Bulls at No. 16 overall they might be able to land Napier.

Either way, the Heat know who they want and they’re now out to get him in the 11th hour.

  • Real M-Fing talk !!!

This is another example of why Riley does not have a clue…. first showing interest in Sessions, Bayless who are not ungrades from chalmers to rumors of Perkins and now Napier because Lebron suggested he was the best PG in the draft… i do think Shabazz is great but that is not how a G.M. goes about doing his job… First he should have a plan based on the best interest of the team, then bring it to Lebron and let him know how he fits in…. not trying to throw pieces at the wall and see what sticks… Teams like Houston and Dallas as far fetch as them landing Lebron seems, at least they have a plan and they are followng it through
