Chris Bosh Officially Opts Out of Contract with Miami Heat

As expected, Chris Bosh has opted out of the final two years of his contract and will join LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in free agency. Miami Heat President Pat Riley sounded optimistic in his statement.

“Today we were notified of Chris’ intentions to opt-out of his contract. Chris is one of the most versatile and dynamic big men in this league, and he has been an instrumental key to our championship success over the last four seasons. We look forward to meeting with Chris and his agent in the coming days to discuss keeping him in Miami for many years to come.”

As reported by ESPN, the Big Three have discussed the financial terms of new contracts with each other. This is a strong indication that the three will re-sign in Miami.

NBA free agents cannot begin negotiating with teams until July 1 and cannot officially sign until July 10, under league rules, but that doesn’t prohibit players from discussing matters with each other.

Bosh was due about $42 million over the final two years, but is now expected to sign a new deal in Miami, which now has $55 million in cap room available.
