Miami Heat Rumors: Is Pau Gasol an Option in Free Agency?

The Miami Heat have a lot of cap space to play with now as they will soon have all three members of the Big 3 off the books which means that the team can go out and try to add pieces to bring back the only member of the Big 3 they truly care about — LeBron James.

According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Heat may have interest in signing Pau Gasol this summer, which is either really awesome of the Heat or further proof that Broussard was dropped on his head as child at some point and now just says things.

With the Heat now having a ton of cap space to play with, we will hear all sorts of reports thrown against the wall with those throwing them doing so only to see what sticks and what doesn’t. But this is really the first we’re hearing of Pau Gasol mentioned with the Heat and love Broussard or hate him, it makes a lot of sense.

Gasol works best when he’s surrounded by great pieces, but he himself is a great piece to have if you’re trying to make your superstar player better. Kobe Bryant had a ton of success with Gasol running alongside him and if he comes to Miami then Gasol would be plying int he same front court as the Heat’s superstar.

It may be along shot but the Heat will need to add a pretty big name to convince LeBron to come back and Gasol not only seems like a good option but he could be affordable as well.

GTFOH! It has to be at the point where heat fans are embarrassed at the level of sissiness their team has illustrated. I don’t want to hear that the spurs “did the same thing,” by taking less money! They didn’t do it in their prime. The spurs are so much older that the heats stars. This s$&t is pu$$y!

Do you assume everything? Check. Here’s a little something for a corny heat fan. I did play Division II college football “bro.” When I played, we wanted to beat the best. Most real competitors do. I also have a daughter. I work hard to teacher values. It’s something you heat fans and you’re team doesn’t know much about. Like, oh my god “bro” it’s time for me to assume. I’m guessing you work at the local mall “bro” and probably still live with your parents!

Who was a better player in the Finals: Manu (7 mil) or Wade (21 mil)?

      • Mike

In 2013 or 2014. Wade has always been far superior than Manu throughout his career. In 2014 wade shrunk, the spurs clearly out balled the heat as a team. LeBron is now asking for max money. He won’t take another pay cut. You can guarantee if this is true from his number 1 fanboy Windhurst, then you will not see the same core in Miami. Wade and Bosh will need to take major pay cuts to make this work and they still won’t be able to bring in additional talent.

You were saying that the Heat are in their primes. My point was that Wade is less in his prime than Manu is.

          • Mike

Manu is about to turn 38 next month. Wade is 32. Manu is past his prime. He’s just a smarter player. Wade has also been considered a much better player. 4 years ago, Wade was considered a top 3 player in the league. Manu has never been considered in the top 10. They were very much all in their primes when they teamed up. The spurs build off of each other year in and year out. Duncan took max money in his prime, not a pay cut to team up. Kwahi is a best because of the system.

I thought you were referring to this year when Wade is CLEARLY not worth his contract any more.

I suppose you can dislike the aesthetic from four years ago, but the entirety of those pay cuts went to giving Haslem his contract which has amounted to a loyalty thing.

Adding Haslem (even in his best years) isn’t exactly stacking the deck.
