The pursuit of LeBron James is starting to heat up in wake of reports this weekend that he’s growing distant from the Heat and is looking to find another place to continue his basketball career.
Right now, the hot spot for him to land is with the Cleveland Cavaliers as everyone is falling over themselves trying to figure out how it can legitimately work — which is very much can.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, the Cavaliers are starting to line up trades that would clear salary cap space in order to sign LeBron to a max contract when he becomes fully available to do so. The biggest trade they have at the moment is flipping the contract of Jarrett Jack to the Brooklyn Nets for Marcus Thornton, who they would then again flip in another trade to dump his salary and clear up space.
Cleveland won’t have enough money to offer James a max contract but they can figure out a way to do it. They’d have to start cutting loose meaningful salary as Anderson Varejao is a name that carries a lot of dollars in Cleveland and could help with relief if he were gone. Cleveland’s a weaker team without him though and perhaps less attractive to LeBron.
Either way, Cleveland has never smelled so much blood in the water before and they’re swarming to try and get LeBron back to the place he once called home.
