Dwyane Wade Stays at Home, Re-Signs With Miami Heat

LeBron James left to go back to Cleveland, but Dwyane Wade is right at home in Miami. As expected, Wade re-signed with the Miami Heat Tuesday. The deal is reportedly a two-year contract worth about $16 million per year with a player option, according to the Associated Press.

Wade turned down $42 million over the next two years and opted out of his contract earlier this offseason. Re-signing for the reported pay cut over the same amount of years shows that Wade has made yet another sacrifice for the organization (especially when you consider that Chris Bosh re-signed for the maximum five-year, $118 million deal).

On Tuesday, Wade posted a photo on Instagram with the caption reading “Home Is Where The Heart Is… My Home,My City,My House..#HeatLifer”

Wade also released a statement, saying that he believes Miami can still contend for a championship despite the departure of James.

“I am proud to have spent every single day of my career as a member of the Miami Heat and to have brought three championship titles to this great city,” Wade said.

“I’ve been here through the good times and the hard times. I have confidence in the Miami Heat organization and the team they are building. To all the Heat fans, in Miami and around the world, I know you will continue to show support for our team.”

Pat Riley said he was excited to have him back and is ready to add to Wade’s collection of three rings.

“Dwyane has been the franchise cornerstone for this team since the day he arrived 11 years ago,” Riley said in a statement. “He has shown his commitment to the Heat many times over the course of his career and has always been willing to sacrifice in order to help build this team into a champion.

“This time is no different. I am ecstatic to have him back in the fold and I am confident that Dwyane, as always, will be leading this team as we look to contend for NBA Championships.”

Even after James’ departure for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wade’s return was never really in doubt, especially after Bosh re-upped for the maximum.

After all, it is #WadeCounty.
