Heat Officially Re-Sign Udonis Haslem

UD is back. The Miami Heat have officially announced the signing of free agent and fan favorite Udonis Haslem (via Twitter):

The team did not, as per club policy, discuss the terms of the deal, although reports indicate that it is a two-year deal worth approximately $5.6 million. Haslem had opted out of his existing contract at the beginning of the free agency period. That contract had one more year left that would have paid him $4.62 million.

A statement was made by team president Pat Riley, which included the following remarks about Haslem:

“Udonis Haslem has been a fixture in Miami over the last 11 years. He’s a team player, an encompassing all-purpose player, that would play just about any position or role in order to win. It’s been such a privilege and honor to have him with the organization and I’m so happy that he decided to come back.”

Haslem has spent his whole career with the Heat. He battled through injury and inconsistency last season, averaging only 3.8 points and 3.8 rebounds over 14.2 minutes per game – all career lows. But while Haslem’s production has been limited, he continues to be seen as the heart and soul of the franchise, the local boy made good who has worked tirelessly to be a part of three championship seasons.

Sure, northeast Ohio has their homecoming but for Miami fans this is just as much of a feel-good story in a great career.
