Dan Le Batard Tried to Mock LeBron James With Ad, Got Shot Down

South Florida sports fans know all about Dan Le Batard and his tongue-in-cheek brand of broadcasting. Le Batard hosts a show that can be heard locally at The Ticket 790 AM/104.3 FM and via ESPN Radio.

The local on-air personality made some news of his own on Tuesday, when he attempted to buy an advertisement in the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, a newspaper that caters to Northeast Ohio.

Representatives of The Dan LeBatard Show called the Cleveland media outlet on Tuesday to purchase a full-page advertisement in this Sunday’s edition of the newspaper, Northeast Ohio Media Group Vice President of Sales and Marketing Mike Maleski confirmed. NEOMG sales staff are responsible for ads in The Plain Dealer.

Le Batard’s request, according to Maleski, was “politely declined.”

Of course, this didn’t stop fans of the radio show from creating a mockup of the would-be advertisement, including this one from Twitter account Bandwagon Heat Lifer:

As listeners heard during the show, the purpose of the ad was not necessarily to make fun of James but rather to highlight the fact that James has yet to thank Miami Heat fans after leaving the team to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers. Le Batard was also attempting to purchase ad space in the Akron Beacon-Journal.

This is all building steam for what will surely be an intense rivalry when the Heat plays the Cavaliers during the upcoming season. A preseason game is already scheduled between the two team on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro and the first regular season game between these squads is expected to take place on Christmas Day.
