Miami Heat Are Still Interested in Ray Allen's Services

With 12 players on the roster, the Miami Heat have three open spots. During a teleconference Wednesday, Pat Riley said the team will probably add another perimeter player and an additional big man. It seems, however, that retaining Ray Allen is Riley’s top priority.

“We haven’t moved on. My conversations with his agent, I’ve been told he has not made a decision with anything.”

Depending on if Allen re-signs with the Heat or not, Riley may have to add another perimeter player.

“Probably the one area we want to shore up, is adding another perimeter player. . . . But we’re not in a rush now. Probably another wing man and also another big.”

Another big man would certainly help. Right now, the Heat have Chris Bosh, Chris Andersen, Josh McRoberts, Udonis Haslem and Justin Hamilton in the front court. At this point in his career, Haslem can’t be counted on for the full stretch of the season. Hamilton is young, and will likely sit at the end of the bench.

According to Riley, Greg Oden is still a possibility. “We have talked to [agent] Mike Conley and right now we have not made any decisions. . . . He’s still on our board.”

If Allen doesn’t return to the Heat, they will need to add a shooting guard. Rip Hamilton, James Anderson, E’Twaun Moore, Francisco Garcia and Chris Douglas-Roberts are all possibilities.

As for big men, Emeka Okafor, Jermaine O’Neal, Ryan Hollins Nazr Mohammed and Greg Stiemsma are available.
