In a video posted on the team’s website, Miami Heat president Pat Riley delivered a confident message to “Heat lifers” Friday.
“I’m not going to make any guarantees, but I will guarantee you this,” Riley says. “That you will see one of the most competitive teams, one of the most entertaining teams that you’ve seen in a long time.”
In the three-minute clip showing footage of some of the great Heat teams and players, Riley speaks confidently into the camera.
“You can’t ever look at the Miami Heat and not think of us as being a contender,” Riley says in the video. “We’ve always been somebody who believed in the big picture.”
Riley talked about the last four years with LeBron James and the two championships in four finals appearances.
“A lot of great highlights, a lot of great moments, a lot of great feelings,” Riley says. “But I want to let you know that there’s a lot more of that ahead of us. While we can enjoy those four years, we can also expect that there might be four or five more of those years to come.”
Riley also talked about owner Micky Arison’s letter that thanked Heat fans and Heat lifers for their loyalty. Perhaps a shot at James or an attempt to maintain the great momentum that Heat basketball has built in South Florida. He talks about Dwyane Wade as the “franchise player for the last 12 years” and “Mr. Miami” Udonis Haslem.
“We have an owner who thinks big. We’re not going to be satisfied with anything that doesn’t come close to winning a championship,” Riley says. “That’s what we’re about.”
