Everyone seems to have an opinion on Ray Allen but the one person who knows for sure – Allen himself – isn’t talking. The latest news concerning the sharpshooting guard is from Yahoo! Sports‘ Marc Spears, via Twitter:
The Cavs are also optimistic about their chances of signing free agent guard Ray Allen prior to the start of training camp, a source said.

The link to the Cavs has been a steady one this summer, ever since former Heat teammate LeBron James decided to return to the team that drafted him. Add to this that James went on vacation with Allen and James Jones, who also signed with Cleveland, and the rumor definitely has some legitimacy to it.
A decision seemed imminent over a week ago when a Boston-based reporter claimed that Allen has agreed to join the Cavs; Allen’s representatives shot this down immediately. The Heat seem ready to move on from signing Allen, who is said to be considering joining James for another title run or simply retiring.
While Miami had seemed to be a serious option for the 39-year-old veteran, a recent incident may have soured Allen’s opinion of South Florida. On Thursday, August 14, seven teenagers attending a nearby party forced their way into Allen’s Coral Gables home, allegedly thinking it was empty.
Allen’s wife, Shannon, and their four children were sleeping at home when the break-in occurred.
According to reports, the teens were found by Allen’s wife and, upon discovery, fled the home amid bursts of laughter. When local police apprehended the intruders, they originally claimed that no charges would be filed, prompting Allen to involve his lawyers to ensure this “very serious” situation would get the attention he feels it deserves.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has been closely monitoring the situation and ensuing legal entanglements.
All in all, it has been a twisted summer from Allen, who only a year ago was largely regarded as a Heat hero after providing a game-tying shot in Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals. While we may still be weeks away from an actual decision, there’s no denying that there’s already been plenty of drama so far.
