As training camp approaches, the Miami Heat seems determined to fill every one of its 20 available roster spots. Earlier today, news broke that Andre Dawkins (of Duke University) would join the team; now UNLV’s Khem Birch is reportedly set to join Miami as well.
The Toronto Sun’s Ryan Wolstat posted the following, via Twitter, earlier today:
There has been speculation out there that Montreal’s Khem Birch is heading to Miami on camp deal. It’s true. Will happen today.

Birch is a 6’9″ prospect that was being courted by the Washington Wizards. However, the Wizards’ free agency signings of veterans Kris Humphries and DeJuan Blair may have created a logjam at forward for the unproven rookie.
Here’s a pre-draft video workout of Birch:
Khem Birch averaged 11.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game last season at UNLV. Physically, he seems like a raw Anthony Davis-type although he might wind up closer to being more like former Heat player Mark Strickland, the “Pogo Man”.
