Ron Rothstein Accepts New Job with Miami Heat

Things are clearing up as to where Miami Heat assistant coaches Ron Rothstein and Bob McAdoo may end up.

As has been already reported, Erik Spoelstra is shaking up his coaching staff and aims to reassign long-time assistant coaches Rothstein and McAdoo.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Rothstein will be moved in a community relations role, but McAdoo’s new assignment is not yet known.

Ron Rothstein, who was re-assigned, is expected to do Heat community relations work and handle other assignments. The Heat expects Bob McAdoo will also accept a re-assignment. Spoelstra essentially wants to be able to select his own assistants instead of continuing to retain ones he inherited, and Pat Riley has given him that autonomy.

According to Adrain Wojnarowski, who originally reported the changes, these reassignments will make room for Juwan Howard to take a more prominent position on the bench as an assistant coach. Dan Craig, who has coached Miami’s summer league teams the past two years, and former NBA head coach Keith Smart may also join the staff.
