Chris Bosh: Coming Back Way Better

Chris Bosh has not played in a NBA game since February, and with the Miami Heat having missed out on the playoffs this year, will not have the opportunity to do so again for quite some time. After announcing that he would come back to Miami despite LeBron James’ departure, Bosh was diagnosed with blood clots in his lung following All-Star Weekend. And although it cost him half the season, fortunately they were caught in time and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Heat certainly had an at-best, rocky year, but that does not mean that Heat Nation has lost hope moving forward. Bosh recently sat down with the Palm Beach Post’s Jason Lieser and spoke of his comeback.

When asked whether or not he would return as the same player as before, Bosh replied “man, waaaay better. Come on. Waaaaaay better. Way better.”

A once reserved individual, seemingly living in the shadows of the other two members of the Big Three, Bosh has started to come out of his shell. His enthusiasm for rebuilding the team, as well as reaching his own personal goals is apparent, even if he has been forced to show it from the sidelines.

Currently Bosh is aiming to resume basketball related activities next month, and has already start getting back into the gym by way of exercising. As he has been throughout his turmoil this season, Bosh is staying positive. And trying to look at his situation as a blessing in disguise.

"“I miss it, so maybe this is what I needed,” said Bosh .“I need to recharge my passion because I was getting beat down a little bit over the last four years. That’s what success does. Now it’s an opportunity for me to go back in the lab and work on my game, work on my body and build that fire up. It was burning low a little bit. I was running on fumes. But now I have the opportunity. I’m gonna watch the playoffs and get motivated — torture myself a little bit watching another team raise the trophy — and get back at it.”"

Getting back at it will have its ups and downs at first, but Miami has a bright future ahead.

More from Heat History

Take for instance, the addition of Goran Dragic. Bosh has yet to play alongside the newest member of the Heat, as news of his blood clots was announced just as the trade for Dragic went through. And while it is not certain that Dragic will return to South Beach, if he does, the pair is sure to be unstoppable on the court together.

Likewise, Bosh did not have too much of a chance to play with Luol Deng and Hassan Whiteside, two players that if they stick around, will be crucial to the team’s future. While Whiteside is the bigger story of the two, becoming Miami’s greatest move of the season, Deng is worth talking about as well; he may have started the year off slowly, but he soon became a solid part of the Heat’s rotation.

It is true that no one knows what the future may hold, but Bosh is doing the right thing in trying to better himself for his team. Regardless of who Miami re-signs and what injuries they may have to face down the line, Bosh will be ready to play at a high level. And as he is already one of the best big men in the league, what more can you really ask for?

Just like Bosh is viewing his setback as a “restart button,” the team should look at this year in the same light. Maybe all they needed was to fail, in order to come back way better than before.
