It is now official: Chris Bosh will not be helping out the Miami Heat this postseason.

On Wednesday afternoon, Bosh and the Heat announced the news, following the team’s practice in Toronto. Although the veteran has not played since February, recently there was talk of the possibility of a comeback. While Miami was not confident in his return, Bosh was so desperate to play that he was prepared to enlist the help of the NBA Players Union. However, it seems as though both sides are finally on the same page.

Fans may be able to rest easier now, without the question of whether or not Bosh will play, looming over their heads. But there are still plenty of things left unanswered.

The big man has been strangely quiet about his health since the All-Star break, never actually explaining what happened. What apparently sidelined him from the All-Star Game was a strained calf, but the longer Bosh sat out, the clearer it became that there was more to the story.

Most people have been operating under the assumption that he suffered another blood clot, a well-educated theory. But without confirmation from Bosh himself, a theory is all that diagnosis could be.

Which of course, lead to confusion and thereafter, speculation.

On the one hand, Bosh fighting to play opened the door to the idea that perhaps he did not throw another clot. Maybe he did indeed strain his calf, and the doctors were merely afraid it would lead to future health complications. So they put him back on blood thinners, and have kept him on them ever since. In this case, Bosh would argue that nothing even happened, that he was feeling no symptoms currently, and should be allowed to be taken off his medication, in order to resume playing basketball.

Of course, there is also the option of Bosh having experienced another blood clot, which again lead to dealing with blood thinners and ultimately to his caretakers learning more about his overall condition. If this was true, it would be strange to imagine the 32-year-old still being so determined to play, but perhaps just as he recovered from the first one, he figured he could do the same again.

Then it is also possible that whatever Bosh went through was not related to blood clots at all. Though this seems to be the least probable case.

More from Heat History

The lack of information coming from both Bosh and the organization itself, has caused the minds of members of the media and fans alike, to spin. However, apparently his teammates do not see this as a distraction.

"“It’s not a distraction at all,” Dwyane Wade explained, before the news was released. “It’s not our focus. This has been going on since February. All we know is that he’s taking care of himself, health-wise, and that’s all we care about. Anything else is out of our control and there’s no reason for us to worry about it.”"

Although the team’s focus should absolutely be their success in the playoffs, Heat Nation is still looking for answers. But one thing is for sure, Bosh is still very much part of the organization’s road to victory.

"“He’s been around,” said head coach Erik Spoelstra. “It’s not like he’s been away from the team. And I think that’s helped. We talk all the time about leadership at all levels. Sometimes it’s a different voice at a different time, and the guys have embraced that.”"
