Despite their rapid improvement throughout the season, a veteran backup point guard would be a welcome addition for the Miami Heat.

The summer of 2017 represents a vital period of decision making for the Miami Heat.

At the forefront is resolving the status of free agents Dion Waiters, James Johnson and Willie Reed. But another area that requires some focus is the implementation of a backup point guard to Goran Dragic.

As currently constituted, the Heat do not have a certified backup point guard on their roster. At present, head coach Erik Spoelstra employs a variety of players as the backup ball handler, most notably via Tyler Johnson or Josh Richardson.

But in moving forward, the signing of a veteran backup, at a low salary, would provide a great balance to the roster over the course of 82 games. And in the event that Dragic is out for any period of time, it can help keep rotations as normal as possible with players keeping their usual roles.

With that in mind, here are some veterans available on the open market this summer who could make sense for the Heat.
