Every year, NBA.com takes what they like to call the “Rookie Survey”. They voted Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat as the best shooter of the class.

We have come to that point in the year and offseason where the actual season is right around the corner. With the new look of the Miami Heat, Heat Faithful can hardly wait to see the latest incarnation of the team at work. There are however still things to get to before that time comes, here is one of them.

With the NBA draft occurring a short while ago, the time has apparently also come for what is dubbed the “Rookie Survey”. Put together by NBA.com, NBA.com writer John Schuhmann was tasked with expounding upon the results. The survey is composed of a series of questions that asked which particular rookie will be the best in a certain category.

The categories that were voted on in the most recent survey were: Rookie Of The Year, Best Career, Biggest Draft Steal, Most Athletic, Best Shooter, Best Defender, Best Playmaker, Toughest Adjustment to the NBA, Skill to Develop in the NBA, Favorite Player in the NBA.

There is one interesting “note” that was tacked onto the results though, here it is.

"NOTE: Players were asked not to vote for themselves, college teammates or NBA teammates. (Some still did, and those votes were discounted.)"

While the Miami Heat had two opportunities to show up on this survey, as far as players mentioned with Tyler Herro and KZ Okpala both being rookies, they only had one player to win a category. If you guessed “best shooter” as that category, then you were right.

Tyler Herro was voted as the best shooter of his draft class by his peers. While Herro took 33 percent of the vote, the other contenders were Kyle Guy of Sacramento with 29 percent of the vote, Cameron Johnson of Phoenix with 13 percent of the vote, Ty Jerome of Phoenix with eight percent of the vote, and Jordan Poole of Golden State with four percent.

It should come as no shock that two of the featured players from the National Championship winning Virginia Cavaliers were on this list in Guy and Jerome, but it is also worth noting that two of the players listed were drafted by the Suns in Jerome and Johnson. The other players that received votes were Ignas Brazdeikis of New York, Carsen Edwards of Boston, Darius Garland of Cleveland, Zion Williamson of New Orleans and Dylan Windler of Cleveland. While it came as no shock that Edwards, Windler, or Garland received votes, it was rather shocking to see Williamson listed.

The other winners were as follows:

Rookie Of The Year- Zion Williamson

Best Career- Cam Reddish

Biggest Draft Steal- Bol Bol

Most Athletic- Zion Williamson

Best Defender- Matisse Thybulle

Best Playmaker- Ja Morant

Toughest Adjustment to the NBA- Speed or pace of the game

Most Important Skill to Develop in the NBA- Shooting

Favorite Player in the NBA- LeBron James

Next. 3 goals for Tyler Herro in 2019-20 season. dark

While the Miami Heat can rest easy knowing that they made great selections in this past NBA draft, they must not rest easy in general. With the addition of quite a few new players, that include the rookies, Jimmy Butler, and Meyers Leonard along with the weakened state of the Eastern Conference, the conference is there to be had. Let’s hope it all comes together for the best shooter as voted by the rookies and the rest of his Miami Heat teammates.
