How have the Miami Heat shot in the playoffs? It turns out they’ve shot pretty well, especially from the corner three areas. But before diving too much into the Miami Heat’s playoff shot chart, here is the Heat’s shot chart from the 2012-2013 regular season.

Miami Heat Shot Chart 2012-2013 Regular Season

Some things to notice:

How well the Heat shot from the corner three areas during the regular season (each at roughly a 43% rate) compared to the other three point areas (36%-38%).

How much the Heat struggled around the paint area if they weren’t directly under the hoop. The Heat shot at almost the same rate as they did from 8-12 feet from the hoop as they did from the three point line.

How well the Heat shot from the mid-range area (aka “the Chris Bosh area”). Much of their success from this notoriously inefficient shot (mid-range jumpers are some of the worst shots in the game) is due to Chris Bosh’s mastery of the mid-range jumper

And now here’s the Miami Heat’s playoff shot chart.

Miami Heat Shot Chart from the 2012-2013 Playoffs

The main takeaways:

The Miami Heat have been very effective from the corner three area…and ineffective three point shooters from everywhere else. From straight-ahead three point range, they are 4-for-21 which is so bad it’s almost Monta Ellis-like.

Unlike during the regular season, Miami’s mid-range game hasn’t really been working (shooting around 35% from mid-range areas). Maybe it’s because Chris Bosh has only been averaging 13.2 points per game?

Around the rim (an area they struggled to score from in the regular season), the Miami Heat have been dominant hitting around 50%+ of their shots (except from the free throw area where they’ve been only hitting 32% of their shots). Don’t know why this is exactly — maybe Chris Bosh is setting up shop closer to the basket or maybe it’s because opponents have been packing the paint and leaving the short jump shot open.

1. Iman Shumpert with the HUGE put-back dunk

A dunk that players wait their entire careers for.

What’s most amazing is that Shumpert is “only” 6′ 5” and 200 lbs, and yet he packed so much power and nastiness into the dunk. You could feel and hear that dunk — it’s the closest I’ve felt to seeing a Russell Westbrook dunk since he got injured (sorry Thunder fans).

2. Nate Robinson’s 23 Point Fourth Quarter

Pound-for-pound and inch-for-inch, the best offensive player in the NBA.

3. Stephen Curry’s 22 Point Third Quarter

Best. Shooter. In. Basketball. Period. Warriors fans are wishing that he hadn’t injured his ankle.

4. Manu Ginobili’s Dagger

After taking a horrendous three pointer earlier (and by horrendous I mean a shot of the “30 foot shot with eleven seconds left on the shot clock and under a minute left in the game” variety) Ginobili redeems himself with this dagger three. If Golden State had won this game, I guarantee that Memphis would be playing the Warriors instead of the Spurs.

5. Tayshuan Prince’s Poster Session

You’ll probably disagree with this. I don’t really care.

I’m gonna give some love to Mr. Tayshaun Prince (who I have admired since his Detroit days). In Game Five with the Grizzlies trying to eliminate the Thunder in Oklahoma City, Tayshaun Prince puts a trifecta of Oklahoma City Thunder players (Reggie Jackson, Thabo Sefolosha, and Serge Ibaka) on a poster. Not bad for a thirty-three year old.
