Jimmer’s ceiling was J.J. Redick, a 3-point specialist who could stretch defenses and get better on defense. His floor was a guy who couldn’t get open against NBA defenses and whose shot wouldn’t transition to the NBA’s 3-point line. After about five seasons, it’s clear he’s hit his floor.
Fredette is averaging just 13.7 minutes per game and, while he wasn’t a bad 3-point shooter his first three years, he couldn’t get on the court because he was a liability everywhere else. Things took a turn for the worse with the Pelicans this season, when he went just 9-for-48 (18 percent) from 3-point range.
