3. What has been your favorite lineup to watch this season?
Allana: While I love watching Wade show glimpses of “Flash,” and Bosh riling the crowd up after a monster play, the second-string unit has been quite impressive so far. In fact, I hesitate even calling them that, because of how undeniably talented they are. Take Tyler Johnson, for example. In Thursday’s game against the Utah Jazz, he finished with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting, and had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal. I mean, what? He was the definition of “hustle.”
Wes: I thought it would be the lineups with Bosh and Josh McRoberts manning the front court, but I’ve really enjoyed with Spoelstra pulls Bosh for Justise Winslow in the first series of rotations and we’re left with a Whiteside, Winslow and Luol Deng trio. With Winslow and Deng annoying passing lanes and Whiteside shielding the rim, it’s a joy to watch on defense.
Chris: The group that I helped nickname: The Justise League, which was Johnson, Chalmers, Winslow, McRoberts, and Bosh. That was such a fun group. Before the trade, they were fifth in NetRtg (minimum of 50 minutes), and helped turn games against Indiana and Toronto. Johnson, Chalmers, and Winslow were like sharks on the perimeter, while I’m pretty sure Winslow was born to play alongside of Bosh and McRoberts. And I can’t say enough of the revelation that is Tyler Johnson. Now with Chalmers gone, that group saw Udrih get a crack with them against Utah and it still performed well. I think Richardson well get a long look, as keeping them strong defensively on the wings is a must. But can you imagine that group with Gerald Green as the shooter? Johnson and Winslow could hide him on defense enough to make it work on that end. Sky’s the limit for that unit.
Kris: My favorite lineup would have to be the combination of Dragic-Wade-Winslow-Bosh-Whiteside. There’s a defensive element to that lineup that makes it overwhelmingly intriguing to me. Whiteside and Bosh’s length, combined with Winslow and Wade’s instincts and effort brings joy to the defensive side of the ball.
Ehsan: I love watching Chris Bosh operate with the second unit. Like Chris said, that lineup with Rio before the trade was as fun as any lineup to watch. I just love the idea of Josh McRoberts playing next to Bosh. I also love seeing Justise Winslow and Tyler Johnson on the court together. Feels like magic happens when those two play D together.
