And why do you think Dwyane Wade hasn’t made a decision yet?
Tachauer: Honestly, I have no idea. I can’t decide if I think Dwyane Wade isn’t in any rush because he knows he’s going to end up signing for another year, or if he’s really that torn over whether or not it’s time to retire. It scares me a bit though, because I truly did think him re-signing would be a done deal by now. And while he’s stated that if he does return to the game, it’ll be with the Heat, and president Pat Riley has made it clear he wants Wade back, it’s giving me flashbacks to the summer of 2016, when Wade signed with the Chicago Bulls. The good news is, if Wade does re-up, he’ll definitely be ready to hit the ground running. He’s been staying in tip-top shape this summer, as well as staying close to guys like Winslow.
Johnson: For one of the few times in his career with the Miami Heat, Wade is totally in control of his contract. Not in the sense that he has the leverage to determine how much money he’ll make in 2018-19 though. Rather, Wade is 100 percent sure that Miami won’t make a single roster move until he’s made a decision. For the first time in his career, Wade can wholly enjoy an offseason. He didn’t need to spend time wooing free agents or bonding with his teammates. Sure, he’s done a little bit of both, but this summer, Wade’s only responsibility to Miami was deciding whether he wants to come back. And despite how it may seem, that’s a major life decision to commit to another nine-plus month season. So why rush it?
The countdown is on.
