The Culture

First things first: Dwyane Wade is an All-Star!

Despite not getting voted in, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver named Wade and the Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki to the All-Star game as special roster additions. Both of them will be retiring at the end of the season, so it is great to see that they will both be able to participate in the game one last time.

Now onto the unfortunate part: Derrick Jones Jr. is out for at least six to eight weeks due to a knee injury. He was going to participate in the Dunk Contest during All-Star weekend but was replaced after it was announced that he would be out for an extended period of time.

Injuries are the last thing this Heat team needs right now, but it is what they are handed. As Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel reported Jan. 30, Jones Jr. believed that this team could keep things moving in a positive direction.

"“I’m a basketball player, competitor. You never want to miss any time,” he said. “That’s one thing that I don’t want to do. But I know that these guys in this locker room . . . they got my back. They’re going to do whatever it takes to keep the team pushing and keep this going.”"

Unfortunately for the Heat, things seem to be moving in the opposite direction. That being said, the All-Star break is coming up and who knows, maybe the break will be what this team needs to finally get (at least somewhat) back on track.
