Miami Heat: A two-way contract competition is heating up
The Verdict
If I had to guess, I would say Macon and Silva are in the lead for the two-way deals. This is because of Macon’s experience and Silva’s Summer League impressiveness, combined with an overall need for defensive-minded big men aside from Adebayo. Though it would not surprise me at all if Martin or Reed ended up with the contracts.
I think Reed really needs to show out in the preseason, in order to show the Heat that they need his versatility as someone that can play either wing position as opposed to another big man. It all boils down to what the Heat feel they need more though.
Martin and Reed are both pure scorers, which the team needs, but Macon can distribute the ball and is the exact type of developmental point guard the team would want behind Goran Dragic, Justise Winslow and Nunn. Alexander and Mulder each provide a good amount of intrigue as developmental pieces, and when the Heat are able to hand out ten-day contracts in January, it would not surprise me to see either one get a contract.
No matter what the Heat decides to do with these contracts, they are going to end up with two players that are extremely hard workers and have significant upside. How do we know this? Because otherwise, they would not have even been extended training camp offers in the first place by the Heat.
