Miami Heat: Why Paul Pierce sounds silly when he talks down on Heat

The Miami Heat are used to being the underdog, underrated, & discounted. Continuing that theme, here’s why Paul Pierce’s recent comments sound silly.

The Miami Heat are an organization that has prided themselves upon overachieving. They are constantly being slotted into the underdog role and being underrated.

That is something that has become somewhat of the norm for Miami Heat basketball since the end of the “Big 3 era” and before it started. Outside of those Shaq years, that was the norm before 2010.

It has been so much the case, that regularly overachieving and living in that space has become a thing for the Miami Heat. This is is especially the case when you look at the period of time before the “Big 3” era and before Jimmy Butler arrived.

They routinely overachieved with teams that not only should have been able to accomplish some of the things that they did but teams with less than a third of the talent that other teams around the league had. It is these factors though, their overachieving mentality in lean times and their overachievement since Jimmy Butler arrived, that has led us here though.

Where has it led us though? It has obviously led us to a point of continued disrespect from those that are in charge of leading the NBA conversation.

Specifically here, we are talking about a silly comment made by Big 3 punching bag, Paul Pierce. His comment was almost as silly as he looked missing that easy reverse layup in ESPN’s production of the H.O.R.S.E. tournament. In case you missed it, here are his most recent thoughts on the Miami Heat.

Yep, that’s what he said. The exact quote was “if the Heat are ‘close’ to a title, every team in the NBA is too”.

There is no need to play around here. Let’s get right to it. Here’s why Paul Pierce sounds flat-out silly saying what he said.

First off, how many teams went from finishing 10th in the conference last season, to being one of the top teams in their conference and in the league this season? Since every other team is just as close, then it should most certainly be another one? Two even, of course, according to Pierce’s logic.

“Every team” must have a preeminent NBA superstar that fits their team, organization, and roster like a glove then as well, right? I mean they have to, since “every team” is just as close. “Every team” must have a guy that works as well with and for them as Jimmy Butler does right?

“Every team” must have a third-year guy, or better, that in a re-draft, would undoubtedly be a top-three pick when they were originally drafted near the bottom of the lottery right? Bam Adebayo was originally drafted at 14 in the 2017 NBA Draft. “Every team” has one of those right?

“Every team” most certainly has two sharp-shooting snipers then right? Every team has a guy that has become the absolute best shooter in the league across only his first full half-season and a first-year rookie bucket, that can not only snipe with the best of them but create his own looks as well. “Every team” has comparable players as far as success, conversion, and skillset wise to Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro, right?

“Every team” most certainly has a rookie dynamo that went from being undrafted to challenging the number one and two picks that year for Rookie Of The Year honors, right? The Miami Heat have Kendrick Nunn, who fits those parameters. Mr. Pierce most certainly can point to one guy on “every team” that has those qualifications, can’t he?

Every team has a starter quality madman that comes off the bench breathing fire, right? Goran Dragic is arguably having his best year from an offensive perspective, while playing fewer minutes. “Every team” has a dragon coming off of their bench don’t they, Mr. Pierce?

Lastly, but certainly not least and just one more of a few examples that can be made here, Paul can most certainly show us an all-time great head coach/team president combo such as Erik Spoelstra and Pat Riley on “every team”. I mean, he has to be able to, since “every team” is as close as the Miami Heat are.

He can’t do any of that, because what he said isn’t true and is simply asinine. It sure was quite the lie for someone nicknamed The Truth. As has been the case with many Miami Heat teams, Haters gonna hate, but that’s ok because the Miami Heat are “close” as Riles put it and every team isn’t just as close as they are.
