Tyrese Maxey- 6’2, 190lbs- Kentucky (Allen Iverson lite)

Although more of a combo guard at the collegiate level, Tyrese Maxey has a skillset that oozes potential elite lead guard at the next level. Although his actual playmaking needs work, the skills that surround that particular skill in makeup are superior.

When you think about a playmaker at it’s simplest, they must have a handle, an ability to get the ball or get to where they want to on the floor, and the ability to at least threaten the defense in one more way to keep them honest. The best ones have all of that plus more.

Maxey has a yo-yo like handle on the ball, is cat-quick, and has range that extends two steps behind the collegiate three-point line already. While his vision and passing instincts need work, those are things the Miami Heat can work on, his skillset and natural ability, however, can only be taught or given by the most-high creator.

While we wouldn’t dare go this far yet, we will say this. With the right tutelage and teaching, a bit of toughening up, Maxey could be a true point guard’s version of Allen Iverson, or at least something resembling him.

The Miami Heat have struck it rich with Kentucky players over the last few seasons, could this one be more of the same. Using Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro as references here, things would seem to point in Maxey’s and the Heat’s favor for pairing up. Who knows though, we shall see.
