The Boston Celtics are widely known for signing placeholder centers year after year. Could they snag Meyers Leonard from the Miami Heat next?

Enes Kanter, Daniel Theis, Vincent Poirier. Just a few of the names the Boston Celtics have rolled out at starting center this season. Despite being constantly tied to trade rumors involving Andre Drummond or Anthony Davis, they continue to deny paying top dollar for centers.

So it makes sense that Danny Ainge would take interest in Meyers Leonard. Not that he’s average, but in terms of the upcoming market, he’ll be one of the best available. Especially in terms of price.

The one thing Boston has lacked in almost all of the aforementioned big men is a 3-point shot. With Leonard they’d see an immediate upgrade in that area. Per NBA.com, the Celtics rank out of the top-10 in every 3-point statistic, and as low as 14th in attempts per game.

Leonard has made 51 shots from deep this season, which is more than all of the Boston centers combined. That alone is enough reason for the Boston Celtics to give chase to Meyers Leonard.

Could they make a longterm or more lucrative offer that could lure him out of South Beach?
