Miami Heat Roundtable: Who should they take with the 20th pick?
The Miami Heat need a guard. Should they take this one out of a football school?
Max Marshall (@maxmarshall136) – Kira Lewis Jr. – G – Alabama
And the pick is… Kira Lewis Jr, the Sophomore from Alabama.
Lewis Jr. fits the mold of being a Miami Heat player. You have to be a certain type of player to fit into Miami’s system.
Lewis Jr. is exactly what Miami needs. He is a fast guard, who can definitely guard the opposing team’s point guard, which is something that Miami struggled with all year.
Also, Lewis is good at the point of attack as a defender, while he is also very good at getting into the passing lanes. What also separates him there is his discipline when reading the lanes.
I want Miami to draft Lewis Jr. for tons of reasons, as he fits very well into Miami’s offense as well. Specifically, with his moving and cutting without the ball in his hands, he can be a menace and oh, not to mention that he shot 43.5 percent on his catch and shoot threes.
Even with the ball not in his hands, he is effective. He drives to the rim hard and is a really good finisher who can react quickly on his instincts.
Being one of the fastest players in the draft, Lewis Jr. doesn’t play out of control, and with him being a young player that is huge because most fast young players tend to be a bit out of control to start.
Lewis can help Miami score off the bounce, which Miami could definitely use, especially in the pick and roll. Also, he is a good shooter, which should help his transition into Miami’s offense.
He’s a very solid player who can come in right now and help Miami. This goes especially on the defensive end, which is where their greatest need lies for a guard.
You also like his speed a lot when it comes to starting a fast break, something I thought Miami ran poorly this year. Lewis could help Miami with the little things and sometimes the little things have a huge effect on the game.
If he’s there at 20 for Miami, then Miami should select him. Again, he definitely fits the culture.
